GM India begins teasing the Chevrolet Sail sedan, but why?

The launch of the Chevrolet Sail sedan is just around the corner with sources even claiming an exact date as February 1, 2013. GM themselves have revealed the un-camouflaged car in many instances either through test mules or officially on its media presentations.

It is quite apparent now that the sedan is going to be called the ‘Sail’ without any suffix to the name. It’s also very clear that the sedan is not going to have any styling cues at the front of the car suggesting that it is not the U-VA hatch.

At the rear, Chevy seems to have kept it plain and simple and there are no India-specific changes from the Chinese version of the car.

However, it seems that a top-of-the-line LTZ variant (we were talking about earlier which could plug the void left by the Optra Magnum) is out of question. The videos clearly show the top end car being badged the ‘LT’ and it seems that GM India could be reluctant to offer a richly equipped version of the car for now. In short, do not expect the Sail sedan to get a whole lot of technology or features over the Sail U-VA.

What we know about the Sail sedan as of now:

  • Sedan version will not be sub-4m in length
  • Will offer the same 1.3-liter XSDE diesel and 1.2-liter petrol engines as the Sail U-VA
  • Expected to be priced from INR 6 lakhs upwards

We don't understand why the Sail sedan is teased when test drive reports with high resolution images have already appeared on sections of the media!
