The Volkswagen Rocky is a design study of an ultra compact electric SUV authored by designer Rafael Gordo García from Spain. It straight away reminds us of the VW Taigun concept that's got its work cut out in the Indian market.

The 3.7m long Rocky Concept amalgamates the dimensions of a kei-car with a rationale design, one that mixes sharp graphics with clean and bold surfaces.

The vehicle was conceived as an addition to the family of electric powered urban vehicles (Up!, Space Up!, e-Up! and Bulli) presented at recent international auto shows. It subscribes to the family's values by being compact but appealing to the youth and carrying a bold stance.

The Rocky is like the Taigun's little sibling using the same design nuggets such as the flat bonnet, big headlights, tight overhangs, pronounced fenders and wide glass areas.

Rafeal claims he's captured the history of Volkswagen's design on the Rocky endowing it a narrow grill of the first generation Golf and the classic 181's door graphics.

The Rocky is driven by four electric motors placed on the inner side the wheels. If a potential market does not support electric vehicle technology, there is provision for a hybrid or a petroleum fueled powertrain, he adds.

Rafael signs off saying that there is a more off-road version that comes with unpainted bumpers and aluminium body inserts!
