The Mirage is the production version of the Global Small Concept that was first shown in Geneva earlier this year. It was specifically developed by Mitsubishi for the Thailand eco car project. The key strength of Mirage lies in its compact dimensions, ease of maneuverability and efficient packing. The idea behind Mirage is plain and simple – a cheap urban runabout.

The Mirage is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with variable valve timing and a start/stop system to combat the rising fuel prices. The company claims that the Mirage gives an astonishing 30 km/l.

Prior to its official debut, the Mirage clocked more than 20,000 orders in Thailand. Looking at its success, Mitsubishi decided to launch the Mirage in Europe as well.

And now it is time to cross the seven seas. Mitsubishi has decided to launch the Mirage twin in the US in September to counter the lack luster sales. Prior to Mirage brand’s official debut, Mitsubishi will present the sedan version at the next year's New York Auto Show which is set to take place at the end of March 2013.

Instead of a 1L engine that powers the hatchback, the sedan version will be powered by a slightly more powerful 1.2L engine mated to a CVT gearbox. It will compete against the Nissan Versa ( a.k.a Nissan Sunny in India). It is expected to be priced around $15,000 in the US (around 8 lakhs INR).

We have constantly propagated the launch of the Mirage twins in India. We believe that the Mirage twins could provide Mitsubishi the necessary leverage that in needs to succeed in the Indian market.

Stay tuned as we get you all the official details of the Mirage Sedan.
