Two weeks back, Jeep laid out its plans to launch four models in India over the next 3 years with the Grand Cherokee at the starting gate.

The Cherokee will be followed by the Wrangler, a B-Segment SUV and a C-Segment SUV.

Similar to the Ssangyong Rexton, the Cherokee is built from the M Class' core hardware from the long gone days of the Daimler-Chrysler joint venture.

Last week, auto spies in China returned with photographs of the facelift of the Grand Cherokee testing with plenty of camouflage. By the looks of it, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets LED-infused headlamps, smaller grille and a redesigned bumper with new airdam.

CarNewsChina.com expects the engine range to stay unchanged, three petrol engines displacing between 3.6L to 6.4L will drive the Chinese-spec models. For the Indian market, Jeep has to marry its new wares to diesel engines if it has any chances of succeeding in the company of German SUV that dictate terms in the Indian luxury market.

Jeep should present the Cherokee facelift in its home market of America at next month's Detroit Auto Show. Jeep must do the right thing by getting the latest models to India as we deserve nothing less!

Even by doing so, Jeep won't be setting trends in India as recent utility vehicle launches from Ssangyong and Renault were updated/refreshed versions of models that were previewed in India with an outdated design.
