Mitsubishi Pajero SFXAnd on this beautiful Monday morning, it is time to say goodbye to two very important motoring icons. Mitsubishi has pulled the plug on two of its key model in the Indian portfolio - the Mitsubishi Pajero SFX and the Lancer Diesel.

Both cars were revered and respected by petrolheads in their own way. The Lancer brand was almost synonymous with the street racing circuit and the Pajero SFX can still put some 21st century off roaders to shame.

However, for reasons such as outdated design, stoneage technology and dwindling sales figures, Mitsubishi India has finally put both iconic cars to rest.

These cars will no longer be manufactured by the Mitsubishi - Hindustan Motors JV. Pretty soon, these cars will disappear from the dealer stockyards as well.

Both moves were expected from Mitsubishi. The recent price correction of the Pajero Sport, owing to its CKD operations, brought it very close to the Pajero SFX which could have increased cannibalization. The SFX is also not compatible with higher emission norms as its engine is outdated.

While the Pajero SFX has received a worthy successor, unfortunately the Lancer will not be replaced with the next generation model. The Mitsubishi Cedia will continue to be the flagship for the brand in India.
