Mercedes India is betting their fortune on the MFA based models and we can see why.

The new A Class is giving everybody a run for their money in Europe and appears to have a fair chance of repeating the success story in India when it comes here next year, though many people are skeptical about an expensive hatchback's potential in a country where a boot is synonymous with superior ego and an an SUV is the ultimate symbol of status.

Well in that case, the CLA sedan certainly looks the part. Here are the spyshots of this baby CLS, which is nothing but the sedan avatar of the A Class.

The white car was spotted near Barcelona by Segundos.org and the grey AMG version which was spotted near Augsburg, Germany is courtesy of Mr. Michael, a reader of Worldcarfans.com.

It's absolutely safe to call this car as a compact four door coupe, a segment which is sure to have many new entrants if the CLA mimics the success of the A Class. The CLA sedan will be positioned below the C Class to become the entry level sedan in the Mercedes' portfolio. To give the CLA time and space to grow, its big brother, the C Class, will upsize when it enters the next generation in 2014.

The front of the car is reminiscent with the A Class however we expect a slightly different detailing on the bumper to differentiate the CLA from it's hatchback sibling. The car has a beautifully swooping roof line which merges with a CLS-like butt.

The CLA sedan is expected to use the same set of motors as the hatchback including the AMG spec 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol which generates 335 bhp of power. The CLA 45 AMG is rumoured to have a 0-100 kmph time of about 5 seconds!

The CLA is due for a 2013 release and the car will be having the company of the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series sedans which follow the same recipe of sticking a boot to a hatchback.
