The annual capacity of this plant is 1,000 units for the Q7.

Audi is already assembling the Q5 SUV, alongside which the A4 and the A6 are also rolled out. The same plant is used to produce bigger Skoda and VW vehicles.

Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India on the roll out said -

"Local production of the Q7 means Audi India is now building a second Q model locally. That will reduce waiting times for our customers and we will be able to offer a wider range of versions in the market."

Perschke did not elaborate on the "wider range" but we're sure he means trim levels. Currently the Q7 is available with 3.0 TDI, 4.2TDI and 3.0L TSI engine options, all paired to an 8-speed transmission.

Audi India has not mentioned if there is any local content on CKD Q7.

In the 10 months that have elapsed in 2012, Audi has grown 55 percent compared to 2011, clocking 7,273 units. The local assembly of the Q7 could help them improve their profitability over time and lower waiting periods.
