The South Korean automaker owned by Mahindra is all set to launch the premium SUV on 17th of October and they've already started teasing the car on their official Facebook page and website.

The Rexton will certainly carry the Ssangyong badge.

The Ssangyong Rexton's official Indian website reads as 'Ssangyong Rexton by Mahindra' which could be incorporated in the car's badge as well. The Facebook page has posted an image of the Rexton's headlamp with a caption: "Discover the new face of sophistication and refinement in a high end SUV on October 17th."

However the facelifted version called the Rexton W which was unveiled at the Busan motor show (South Korea) this May, came with a 2.0 litre 154 bhp diesel engine that was developed in-house, but continued to use the five-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes.

The Rexton launching in India, thankfully, is the facelifted version and is likely to be offered with six-speed manual and five-speed automatic gearboxes.

The Rexton competes with SUV's such as the Toyota Fortuner and Nissan X-Trail. It is a CKD product for which kits are imported from South Korea.

What's interesting is, the Tata Safari Storme, though not its direct rival, is also scheduled to launch on the very same day. Stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com as we bring in all the updates from both the launches on Oct 17th.
