GM has started teasing the Spin MPV that was leaked through spyshots published on NoticiasAutomotivas.com.br last month. We've already brought you the details on what we call the "Brazilian man's Maruti Ertiga" in 2012.

The Spin will be positioned under bigger MPV models such as the Orlando and Zafira. It sits on the Gamma II platform which supports the Spark (Beat), Sonic and the upcoming Trax models. An older 1.8 8v Econo Flex producing 108hp will motor this inexpensive people carrier.

The Chevrolet Spin can be bought either as a five or a seven seater. A fuel-saving, six-speed automatic transmission is a segment-first feature on the Spin.

The Chevrolet Spin will also be manufactured at GM's Bekasi plant in West Java, Indonesia from early 2013. The Indonesian market is witnessing a slew of MPV introductions this year. Suzuki and Nissan have marked their attendance this year while Honda is working out a Brio-based MPV, due out in 2014.

Wuling_HongtuGM India is unlikely to put the Spin on the market as the Enjoy MPV, unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, would take on the role of the inexpensive MPV in its portfolio.

On top of this, GM India also has the Tavera on sale. The third MPV joining the fray is the HongTu van (badged Chevrolet N200 in overseas countries, and was spotted testing last year) in 2013 that will be positioned under the Enjoy.

We doubt if there is space in the Chevrolet stable or in the market for a fourth MPV offering.
