Back in 2011, Chevrolet decided to facelift the Captiva to bring the design closer to the new family design. Originally the Chevrolet Captiva was launched in 2006 with the help of Daewoo and was quite a successful crossover worldwide.

Chevrolet also decided to update the mechanicals by giving the Captiva a retuned suspension, four new engines and two new transmissions.

Recently, the new diesel Captiva was launched in Malaysia in two variants – LT and LTZ. It also gets the updated 2.0-litre VCDI engine that produces 163 hp at 3,800 rpm and 360 Nm from 2,750 rpm. It also gets the updated six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control (DSC).

The key difference between the LT and LTZ is the size of alloys – 18″ alloys for the LT and 19″ alloys for the LTZ. The equipments list on the LT include leather upholstery, a multi-function four-spoke steering wheel, an electronic parking brake and a 3D sound staging system. The LTZ tops that with a electrochromic rear-view mirror and perforated leather upholstery.

The safety list include dual front airbags, curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, anti-rollover protection, self-levelling suspension, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control.

  • The Chevrolet Captiva 2.0 VCDI AWD LTZ will set one back by RM 168,888 (INR 29 lakhs)

The new Captiva has been testing in India since last year. Chevrolet also showcased the facelifted Captiva at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. Originally slated for an April launch in India, our sources now tell us that, for reasons unknown, it has been delayed to coincide with the festive season.

The Captiva has always lived under the shadow of the Toyota Fortuner. We hope the new one is able to carve a niche for itself.

    Why is the Indian motor industry obsessed with end of year festival launches. If a person needs to buy a new vehicle he will at any time of the year.

    Festival launches mean that the buyer is losing out benefit of the new year registration. In the west festival time is holiday time for business; and the right time to launch a new model would be at the start of the year.
