Cut-price Skoda Superb landing on April 18 is 'Czech mate' to the Camry and Sonata

Skoda SuperbThe steam is building up in the executive saloon market. With the entry of the Hyundai Sonata (i45) and the soon-to-be- launched Toyota Camry (launching in August), the existing players are taking rear-guard actions. Skoda is going to launch a cut price variant of Superb on the 18th of this month. Expected to be named Ambition, the variant could be launched in the price bracket of 17-19 lakhs.

The Ambition variant will be powered by the same 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines. The petrol model (TSI) will churn out 160PS of power and 250Nm of torque, all of which will be delivered through a six speed manual.

The diesel car (TDI) will peak out at 140PS and 320Nm of torque. It is expected to get a 6 speed dual clutch and continue to lead the charge for the Superb in India, a class leader with acres of rear leg room.

The Ambition variant will skimp on gadgetry like bi-xenon headlamps, electric sunroof, touchscreen system on centre console, Bluetooth function, ESP, hill hold and descent functions. Most safety features such as driver and front passenger airbags, anti-lock braking system with EBD are expected to remain intact.
