The first hatchback from the global giant Toyota for India is finally out of the bag. Displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2010 and been under testing ever since, Toyota Kirloskar India has finally decided to take the wraps of the Liva at a press event at Delhi. Toyota Kirloskar has launched Liva with a base price tag of 3.99 lakhs (Ex showroom Delhi).

The Toyota Liva is a hatchback version of the popular sedan Etios. Powered by a 1.2 Litre DOHC 4-cylinder petrol engine and mated to a 5 speed Manual, the Liva puts out a generous 80 PS and 104 NM of Torque at 3100 rpm. Only the petrol version is launched for now but there are plans to bring the diesel variant by early next year.

As revealed by us earlier, the Etios Liva will be presented in five variants (J, G, G special edition, V, and VX). The prices of different variants are as follows:

  • J: 3.99lakhs
  • G: 4.59lakhs
  • G Special edition: 5.05lakhs
  • V: 5.49lakhs
  • VX: 5.99lakhs

(All prices are Ex-showroom Delhi)

The base model will have very few basic features and don’t expect power steering to be one among it.  However the top-end model has exciting features such as Dual SRS Airbags, ABS, EBD, Immobilizer, Keyless Entry, steering-mounted audio controls, dual tone interiors, leather wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels and chrome inserts on the grill and door handles.

The little hatchback is available in 7 colors – Vermillion Red, Celestial Black, Serene Bluish Silver, White, Symphony Silver, Harmony Beige and Ultramarine Blue.

With the price tag at which it is launched, the Toyota Liva will compete against a range of hatchback such as Hyundai i10, Maruti Swift, Maruti Wagon R, Fiat Punto, Ford Figo et all . If public response to its elder sister Etios Sedan is anything to go by, the Liva is well on its way to become the segment favorite.
