Rendered: 2012 Mercedes B-Class

Just yesterday, Mercedes India made it official that they would bring the smaller cars – A and B Class from their portfolio to India. But they also made it quite clear that these smaller stars will be here in 2013.

2012 Mercedes B Class

But by 2013, the current generation of A and B Class will be obsolete as Mercedes is already working on the latest generations of these models. The company has already showcased it’s A-Class Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show but being a concept it was quite outlandish to look at. So clearly, the A the B Class, being Mercedes, will be slightly conservative than the Concept A Class.

Here we are have a rendering of the Mercedes B Class from Jean-Francois Hubert of Auto Zeitung, a German Auto magazine. As we can see, the B Class will be have sporty looks, but will retain the space and comfort of the existing model.

Separated at Birth – 207 and F150

Tata 207 pickupFord F150 Raptor SVT

Left – A done-up Tata 207 pickup truck sporting a 2,000cc, 4-cylinder in-line diesel engine that manages 90bhp of power. The vehicle has evolved and is sold with a bigger, torquey engine in the current generation.

Right – A stock Ford F150 Raptor SVT with a humongous 6,200 cc V8 petrol engine delivering a class-leading 411hp. The vehicle is a part of the legendary F150 pickup truck brand which is the highest selling automobile in USA.

Thanks Pappu Hatela for sending in the customized Tata 207 image!

A member of the popular TheAutomotiveIndia forums spotted the Hindustan Motors Ambassador pickup truck yesterday on the road leading to the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) in Pune. The vehicle wore black camouflage, was single-cab type fitted with a parcel tray and visited the center possibly to complete homologation formalities. The TAI member unfortunately couldn’t pick up any snaps of the elusive vehicle.

Hindustan Porter Diesel

IAB reported last month about this development and the spotting confirms its close proximity to a market introduction. What we didn’t know back then was the existence of the 1980s Hindustan Porter.

The Porter was a diesel pickup truck on the Amby platform that ran for a few years. Due to its lackluster performance, HM pulled it out of the market. We expect HM to keep the design, even if it only a mild cosmetic affair, modern and in line with today’s pickups. Going retro with a pickup truck will not result in sales boosts.

American Youtube star Brittani Taylor promotes the Ford Fiesta by telling us why the Lamborghini Gallardo is no match to the city hatch except for straight-line speed. Turn up the volume but common sense has to be turned off before watching this video as Brittani isn’t informed about things like the Lambo’s boot space or its location.

Ford’ new-found practice of putting bloggers, Youtubers and internet icons behind products, devising viral campaigns and pushing it to consumers is working equally well as using traditional media, but at a fraction of the cost.

If Ford India wants to promote the Fiesta sedan, we suggest handing it to team IAB along with a Bugatti Veyron for about a week ;-)

Pakistan wants Nano, but will they get it?

Tata Nano Standard RedThe International Multi Group of Companies, a Pakistan-based business conglomerate with highly diverse interests, wants India and Pakistan to reconsider trade agreements for them to import Nano and CNG Buses from Tata Motors.

Pakistan allows a limited number of vehicles to be imported and instead encourages manufacturers to assemble cars to help develop the local economy. The second bottle neck standing in the way is the RBI’ policy of not permitting joint ventures or investments in Pakistani soil.

A low-cost vehicle like Nano will sell in large numbers in similar terrains and IMGC would like to capitalize on this opportunity and the global buzz Nano’ price, features, fire cases and political controversies managed to generate.

Given the extraction of international terrorist Osama Bin Laden by special forces from United States, not very far away from a military installation in Pakistan, happened only days ago, investments in Pakistan will be a call that foreign business houses will not take at the moment.

Live Image – Infiniti M spotted in Mumbai

Infiniti M Mumbai

Photographer Suraj Arumugam on his Facebook Page Supercars and Exotics in Mumbai posted an image of the Infiniti M on a busy Mumbai lane. Infiniti is reaching the Indian buyer very soon through the Shreyans Group who are distributors of exotic brands like Ferrari and Porsche in India.

Infiniti is to Nissan what Lexus is to Toyota. The M sedan has foxy-eyed looks and absorbs second glances. But will it be uttered in the same breath as a BMW or a Mercedes Benz in India?

India bound Nissan NV200 is America’ next taxi

Nissan NV200 NYC Taxi

The instantly recognizable Ford Crown Victorias fill up New York city’ sky scraper-filled landscape. NY citizens are bound to have used them at one time or another.

The sad news is these iconic vehicles are reaching the end of the road as NY gets ready to say hello to its next generation taxi – the Nissan NV200. Yeah, it’s the vehicle India’ expecting to take on the Toyota Innova or probably put an end to its dominance.

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the Nissan NV200 has triumphed over the homegrown Ford Transit in the “Taxi of Tomorrow” competition, the ambition of which was to find a replacement to the Victoria.

The favorable for Nissan result means it now has exclusive rights to replace the 13,000 yellow cabs in the city. They will have to do it stage by stage, not before it fixes this problem – the NV200 isn’t sold in the US. The American spec NV200 need to be readied to meet the end-2013 deadline.

The NV200 for America will be built in Mexico with a 2.0-liter petrol engine. In India we expect Nissan to use the Micra’ 1.5-liter diesel engine with power output boosted to 100bhp.
