In Live Images – Honda Brio interiors

Honda’s Brio (spell it Breo) arrives in India by the start of the festive season and the company will be keen on doing well as it has lost leadership in every segment, full credit to the absence of diesel engines.

Honda Brio boot space

From these images shared by our Malaysian friend Paul Tan on his website, we get a better idea on the interior room and luggage space. Going by these images, stowage space behind the rear seat is limited. Notice the front seat back and dashboard shaped in a concave manner to liberate extra knee room. Every millimeter counts in India.

Mahindra W201 in BangaloreIAB reader Vijayakumar sent us this snap of the Mahindra W201 testing in Bangalore city recently. Mahindra have been conducting years of on-road tests with the W201 and it is clearly to iron out every single niggle before the launch. The size and features on this SUV, referred internally as “Global SUV” connotes its upmarket positioning. Mahindra will position the W201 above the Scorpio and it will serve as a good alternative for Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour buyers.

Under the hood we expect the Scorpio’s 2.2-liter CRDI engine coupled to both automatic and manual transmissions. The W201 is feature laden and with minor adjustments, it can be ready to sail overseas and be retailed in Ssangyong showrooms as well.

Official – No Toyota Fortuner AT this year

Speaking exclusively to Indian Autos Blog, a top official from Toyota Kirloskar Motor played down the possibility of an Automatic Transmission on the Fortuner for the Indian market in 2011 or debuting at Auto Expo 2012.

Mr Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director (Marketing), TKM, when asked of a Fortuner AT debuting in 2011 or Auto Expo 2012 -

As of now there is no plan (for AT) because Fortuner is doing well.

The Fortuner is still enjoying a good waiting period and the company’ focus will be to satisfy existing demands before moving on to other variants.

Ford Figo greenLong time ago, Ford, GM and Chrysler were considered the BIG 3 of the American car market. But as more and more companies started to set foot on the US soil, the BIG 3 started bleeding their respective market share.

A similar situation is being observed in the Indian Market as well. Our own BIG 3 – Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai have started to lose out on their market share to newbies such as Ford and VW.

According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), here are the drops in market share

• Maruti Suzuki India’s market share dropped to 48.74 per cent from 50.09 per cent in 2009-10.
• Hyundai Motor India’s dropped to 18.10 per cent from 20.61 per cent in 2009-10.
• Tata Motors dropped from 18.10 per cent to 13.18 per cent in 2009-10.
