With speculations rife about a Diesel Nano that will give 40kmpl, the Tata Motors team certainly have their work cut out for them. Now our friends at Motorbeam have spotted this miracle machine being tested at old Mumbai-Pune highway in full swing.

There is no solid proof that this is the diesel avatar as there is nothing unusual other than a tape running across the hatch. The silencer chamber/catalytic converter casing appears to have been lowered. The angle of the image could be a reason, but we know Tata’s working on a diesel and a bigger petrol engine.

There is still a lot of speculation about the type of mill that will drive the diesel Nano. Some reports suggest that it will be a DICOR engine, whereas others suggest that Tata ACE’s IDI engine will also find a place on the Nano. Because no concrete information is available on this subject, we will reserve our judgment for now.

This particular test car was being driven at 60kmph and was accompanied by a left hand drive Indica Vista and Aria.

Expect the diesel Nano to be launched by the end of this year in a price range of 2-2.5 lakhs.

What are your expectations from the Diesel Nano?

      your perspective is not right

the car is more than intelligent & better than the cramped JAPS designed car. they dont even care to see how difficult is for indian man to sit in a cramped 800 cc and Alto.

i have done 15000 kms on this cars its is very comfortable for me and my family.

i only wish it had a 20 l tank, boot that opens from behind. power steering.

trust this is a car that is for poor indians who may not earn salary to afford car for 2 yrs to 4 yrs, i daily see such families of ( 4 ppl) on road driving 2 wheeler and think safety is better than this

if you talk abt fire, i know a VW vento catching fire 1 month from delivery.

        Dear Mr. Sumit

Hats-off to you for your comment! I totally agree with you!

      Dear Jazz,

Tata Nano is truly an Engineering Triumph. An innovative car with affordability at the heart of it’s design.

Tata Nano is an Affordable and “All-Weather-Form” of vehicle that had not been produced anywhere in the World.

Just imagine an Indian family of Four clinging to a bike/scooter on a rainy day. What happens if the bike/scooter slips or hits something?

I do accept that Tata Nano is not a SUPER-CAR. It is a very DECENT and SAFE means of transport with all the essentials a basic car can provide. In fact Tata Nano is much better than a Maruti 800 or Alto in most aspects.

Tata Nano has passed European front- and side-impact crash tests. Maruti 800 was never tested and In the name of Safety, what the Alto offers is only a collapsible steering column, Front and rear Seatbelts!

If someone wants a Car with Finesse and Armoured Safety it is wise to go for a Audi car or Volvo car.

there were not the diesels being tested, the automatic transmission was being tested on all three cars

  3. abuna ventana says:

what ever be the price, the diesel should be REFINED. TATA should not focus upon price which received widespread criticism..
