Rendering – Hindustan Ambassador revival

2011 Hindustan Motors AmbassadorHindustan Motors is working on reviving the Ambassador. The vehicle is expected by July 2011 with a fresh design. The platform remains as it is. The bodywork, interiors and characteristics we hear have been thoroughly revamped.

We have no idea on how the end result will turn out to be. SRK set off by looking at the current Ambassador’s design and gradually modernized it part by part.

Much of the work on the new Ambassador has been carried out by overseas specialists. The Ambassador, according to the company will sport “cutting-edge” engineering. HM should work equally hard to preserve the traits of the Amby which is space, comfort and ease of maintenance.

HM has also kicked off an exciting online campaign on Facebook and is receiving feedback from customers and general public which we reckon will serve as the framework for variants and equipment.

Do you think the next gen Ambassador will look similar?

Rendering – Skoda’s small car ambition

Skoda Wagon RSkoda’s mini car ambitions could stay as a dream if VW is to axe the Up! for India. Skoda was expected to rebadge the Up! (VW Lupo could be the commercial name) and position it under the Fabia as the Skoda Joyster.

Reports say that is not happening and the Suzuki WagonR, rebadged as a Skoda could be brought in to fill the void under the Fabia since the alliance between Japan and Germany is looking into all kinds of understanding.

According to Autocar India, a study of the WagonR has revealed its coincidentally close connections to the Czech brand. Skoda’s product credentials of being roomy and spacious go hand in hand with the WagonR.

Could we see a diesel engine under the WagonR’ bonnet? Experts say product differences will be minimum with just the WagonR’s front-end reworked to play a Volkswagen. If Skoda needs to sell a WagonR in their showrooms, they need to offer something Maruti doesn’t.

Maruti’s spares are cheap, they have the widest service network in India, their reputation, last time we checked, is three light years (at least) ahead of Skoda and Indian customers, unlike in the 80s, do their research well.

So what does Volkswagen/Skoda have that Maruti doesn’t?

Answer – Diesel technology

Quote of the Day

Tata Nano Yellow

While pushing the Nano as the cheapest car, its other values have been overlooked. It is an engineering marvel; it’s spacious, fuel efficient and has an interesting price-value equation. So, we will offer a wider range of options to our customers.

Tata Motors Managing Director & CEO Carl-Peter Forster conveys his intention to maximize Nano car variants to Business Standard.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 heads to Chile

Suzuki Alto K10

The low-cost Alto K10 heading overseas is not an alarming development. The Alto K10′s journey to Chile was very much on the cards. It is also expected in Algeria among many other countries.

Made in India, the Alto K10 export model sees no changes to its mechanicals. The minuscule 1.0 liter 3 cylinder K series engine produces 68bhp @ 6200 RPM & 90Nm torque @ 3500 RPM. Redesigned headlamps & taillights, new fog-lamps and a new instrument cluster will be present on the four Chilean variants as well.

Is this a glorified Tata Nano or what?

We’ve had a close eye on the Tata Nano since the inception of Indian Autos Blog and no post thus far can match the Gold Plus Nano’s bling.

On a special occasion like a birthday, the common practice among Indians is wearing new clothes.

Tata Sons is an Indian salt-to-software conglomerate and somewhere in that list of popular companies is a flourishing jewelery division Titan Industries eager to celebrate 5000 years of Indian jewelry with the car division’s pride on wheels.

Tata will not sell these Nanos drenched in gold ornaments. It has posted three different designs on a dedicated website which the public is asked to vote on. The most preferred design will be made into the real thing and will remain as a memento to mark the occasion.

This is a neat celebration that will bring publicity to not only its jewelry division, but boost the Nano’s brand value. Gold is usually seen as a symbol of prosperity, and the Nano definitely can do with some.

So which of these three do you think should make it to the real world? Head over to http://goldplusnano.com/ to vote.
