24th September saw Hyundai strengthening its commitment towards the Indian market by launching the all new 2010 Hyundai i10 ahead of its international debut at Paris Motor show. Earlier rumored as just a small facelift, Hyundai surprised us all by giving the car a complete overhaul in every aspect. So without wasting much time, let’s get down to it.
* Design
The old i10 wasn’t exactly a looker and at first glance so isn’t the new one. The i10’s design is inspired by their new philosophy – Fluidic Sculpture, first shown in the ‘Concept RB’ that was launched at Moscow motor show 2010. But as the Concept RB is a sedan, the lines that started from the bonnet were stretched all the way to the boot thus completing the whole appeal. On the other hand, the i10 (being a hatch) is tall and the lines are suddenly cut short so the whole design looks a bit botched up. Having said that, the i10 certainly grows on you the more you look at it.
In terms of Exterior design, the new i10 is a comprehensive facelift with every aspect of the car, right from the front bumper to taillights, given a fresh look. No doubt you can still find some glimpses of the old car in the roof line and side profile, but overall the car looks new.
The Mumbai Police got Toyota Qualis, the Chennai Police got Accents and the Punjab force are now welcoming a fleet of 150 Scorpio Getaways to join their force. 30 cars have been delivered to the Punjab Police; the remaining 120 will be delivered over a period of time.
On the occasion, Mr. P.S. Gill, Director General of Police, Punjab said -
We chose M&M Scorpio because it is a multi-utility vehicle, sturdy and durable. We were impressed by the on-road performance of the vehicle.
And he has surely made the right choice. The Scorpio Getway was launched in India in 2007 as a pick up truck for hard core off-roading activities. The Getaway is powered by 2.6L, 115 BHP CRDe engine that is very torquey at the bottom end making it ideal for police usage.
These vehicles are also fully equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and other emergency tools. Moreover, they can also be customized to include additional body armory.

The flagship sedan of the four rings is all set for an upgrade come Diwali. The new car debuted at NAIAS in Detroit and has got the world talking about its impressive features. We have done a story about this launch before as well. The A8 will come to India only in the long wheelbase form.
As a follow up to that, Audi has released a small teaser on their website. You can check this teaser over here.
Right now standing 3rd in the luxury flagship sedans segment, this model will surely give Audi the required sales boost!
The Micra’s doors close with a reassuring thud so once you’re inside the car, you get a sense of being in the lap of safety. The top-end Micra (that costs a little over 6 lakh rupees in Chennai) comes with keyless entry. As long as you have the key fob in your pocket, you have complete access to every control.
Buckle up and press the “Start-Stop” button and you’re ready to go. The seat height is just about right, the overall visibility is good and the large wing mirrors are a good addition.
For a 3-cylinder engine, the refinement level is good. There is not much power low down. Beyond 2,000 RPM the Micra is brisk and reacts well to throttle response. The engine gets a little noisy when you rev it hard and understandably. The 5-speed gearbox has well-spaced out gears, sometimes you get a click while shifting gears which was sole sore point of the powertrain.
The steering is the best bit in this car. Inside the city, it’s at its best. Light and agile, it makes the Micra a delight to drive through congestion and take tight U-turns. The brakes on the other hand is a bit of a let down. It was soft and spongy and took time getting used to. Nissan should think about making the brakes feel a bit more direct.
The car’s suspension is tuned well to suit Indian conditions. At normal speeds, bumps are soaked up with no trouble at all. You will have trouble negotiating tall speed bumps and giant potholes. The car’s underbody could easily scrape the road, and taking it a little easy over surface disruptions helps matters.
