Toyota Land Cruiser Prado diesel india

Our friends working at the newspapers say a top company official from TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motors) confirmed the entry of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado diesel as a CBU in India next year.

The Prado diesel is expected to come with the same 3.0-litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The UK spec model produces 171bhp at 3,400rpm and maximum torque of 410Nm between 1,600 and 2,800rpm, but that could be tweaked for India.

The faceifted Toyota Prado was showcased at Frankfurt Motor Show last month.

Very very innovative idea.

Toyota is using bluetooth campaigning to spread the word of its recently-launched SUV Fortuner in airports across India. If you are in the Delhi, Cochin, Mumbai and Hyderabad airport waiting lounge, you can use your mobile phone to view colors and information of the vehicle in an interactive format and contact details of where you can purchase a Fortuner.

Apart from the interactive content, the airports also have a vehicle on display.

The campaign is created and executed by Telibrahma, a Bangalore-based Bluetooth solution provider.

Suresh Narasimha, founder and CEO of Telibrahma -

This is a high-end vehicle with superior technology. Normally, promoters fail to communicate properly about the vehicle to the target audience with just car displays in airports. This is the fundamental challenge in automobile industry today. Besides, it also costs a good amount of money which might not give the required ROI to the advertiser. So what we have tried to do is to help the automobile company with a solution that would give him value for investment

I’ve never heard of such a campaign in India, at least for cars. What Toyota should do to make it more effective is place banners in the waiting lounge asking viewers to check their mobile phones for Fortuner details. The effectiveness of the campaign will be determined once statistics are analyzed in the end.

Tokyo 2009 – Next generation Suzuki Alto concept; What?!

Suzuki Alto Concept Tokyo 2009

Considering recession, slowdown, job losses and bail outs, the pace at which the Auto industry is working today on this side of the globe is startling.

For instance the new VW Golf is still wet behind its ears but that’s not stopped or influenced the VW in developing the next generation model for 2012 at a Cheetah’s pace. Similarly, the new Suzuki Alto, sold as the A-Star in India, has turned one, and Suzuki is showing the next generation concept to audience at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Phew!

Actually this next generation concept is closely based on the current vehicle. The front fascia and windows resemble the A-Star. If you ask me, the car has gained height and is moving nearer to the Zen Estilo. It’s shaping up into a tall boy now.

This popular city car is 133.7 inches long and sports a 94.4-inch wheelbase. The K-Series engines don’t feature here either. You get a pint size 658cc inline three-cylinder married to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This car is front-wheel-drive, but Suzuki says it could offer four-wheel drive option in the future.

Tokyo 2009 – Suzuki Swift hybrid

Suzuki-Swift-Plug-in-Hybrid-2009

At the Suzuki stall in this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, you can expect to see a different kind of Swift. No, it’s not a sport model or a souped up 200hp version from a local tuner. It’s how a Suzuki Swift would and should evolve.

Suzuki will showcase a plug-in hybrid Swift at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. The concept will have lithium-ion battery pack mounted under the center console. This would mean rear passengers don’t have to cut their legs off to sit comfortably.

The engine on-board is not your regular Multijet or K-Series type. A 658cc gasoline engine powers the front-drive electric motor, which in-turn produces 74hp at the front axle. At no point will the engine drive the wheels.

The available details are scanty. We are expecting more information as we move closer to the show.

Spied – 2011 Hyundai Accent (Verna)

2012_hyundai_accent-12012_hyundai_accent-2

What you see here is a camouflaged 2011 Hyundai Accent (Verna to Indians) testing on Korean soil. The next generation Verna is going to be completely overhauled and from what we can observe, it will share lines and grilles with the Sonata YF.

The current generation Accent has been on sale since 2005. Amazingly, Hyundai also sells the previous generation Accent in India in both petrol and diesel forms.

Codenamed RB, the 2011 Hyundai Accent will share its underpinnings with the Hyundai i20 and be offered as a four door sedan and a three-door hatchback (Hyundai sold the Accent 4-door hatchback under the name Viva in India). Four cylinder petrols and diesels will take charge under its hood.

Apart from the four cylinder model, one variant is expected to get the direct-injection 1.6L gasoline engine with 140 horsepower that returns over 40 mpg. A hybrid powertrain is also said to be in the works but such an offering will not make it to India.
