Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, CEO Nissan India, has said the company’s first mass-production EV will be sold in India in 2010-12.
Tokuyama claimed he had already requested the company’s HQ in Japan to conduct feasibility studies for instituting the recently unveiled EV in India. At the time of issuing this statement, he sounded confident of the Indian government’s support to such environmentally conscious products.
The Leaf is capable of traveling 160km on a single charge. When it comes to India, the import duties will inflate its cost by twice as much. Tokuyama also stressed on manufacturers working together and approaching the government for installing the necessary infrastructure across the country as most of them had EVs in their engineering centres.
The Nissan Leaf will go on sale by the end of next year globally.
Yesterday at the launch of the all-new Teana and X-Trail in Mumbai, Nissan screened a presentation prior to the launch of the cars and in that were Nissan’s products for the Indian market slated for 2009.
It had images of the new X-Trail and Teana that were revealed moments later. And it had something else
Look closely – do you see a yellow car?
We don’t know if this was a mistake or Nissan’s way of saying “People, we’re up to something.”
The Nissan 370Z is arriving later this year barring which, it assume the role of the Nissan stall’s crowd puller during the Auto Expo next year.
Hyundai has launched a truly special edition of its popular Getz in Malaysia. When others add a spoiler or two with special paint and label it a special edition, Hyundai was left with limited choices for its special edition stand apart – so they chose the option of removing the all-important Hyundai logo from the grill.
Since its launch in Malaysia, Hyundai has sold 20,000 units of the vehicle. We don’t know if this is a figure to boast about. Whatever its status maybe, the Getz SE, limited to 300 units, certainly looks unique.
Starting with the “Icing White” special color to the new grille and bumper, the car looks more gutsy. The side mirrors like a special edition, have LED indicators. The rear bumper is new as well. 15 inch Dunlop rubbers are wrapped around alloys.
Step inside the Getz SE and you’ll notice the brushed aluminium supplementing it with richness. The seats are leather. the inside, the center dashboard and the door handles has a new brushed-aluminium look to them.
The SE version is for both the 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic options.

Ford has confirmed that it is working on two- and three-cylinder petrol engines with displacements of 1.0-litres or less. Ford says these small capacity engines are about three years away from a production line.
Which brings us to this question – Will our small car in the future use it to its benefit?
Ms Barb Samardzich, Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, US operations -
I think you’ll see all of those things (2 and 3 cylinder engines) roll out. It’s more than experimental.
Although Ms Samardzich did not speak about the cars in the contention, common sense dictates it would be small hatchbacks like the Ford Ka and our very own small car (unveiling scheduled next week) could use them to good effect.
Apart from these engines, Ford is also planning to manufacture turbocharged engines of lesser capacity.
The Tata Nano which went on sale on March 23, uses a 623cc 2-cylinder engine that makes 35bhp.
