Rendering – 2010 Nissan Micra

Last month, Auto Bild India published a rendering of the next generation Nissan Micra/March which will be manufactured in India. Earlier this week, we had brought you information on the Micra platform, and the type and nature of cars that will emerge from this new plant.

The 2010 Nissan Micra will also be manufactured in other strategic points on the globe. This car will fit the bill in Europe where there is a high demand for smaller and fuel efficient cars like the India made Hyundai i10 and Suzuki A-Star.

Special Report – Audi reveals first teaser of 2011 Audi A8

Audi revealed the first teaser image of the 2011 Audi A8 which shows the car veiled in black cover. With the LED daytime running lights glowing and the car’s grille outline emerging out of the cover, a lot can be said about the next A8.

Though a rendering we showed earlier has a lot in common with this teaser, we still have no confirmation from Audi regarding the body shape. Despite hearing from people about flared wheel arches and the car spanning on a stretched wheelbase, we think its too early to call. An A5 Sport back like coupe-profile was also expected.

We had a special report on the A8 a few months back. We thought we’d brush-up a few points (officially revealed) mentioned in the report. So here they are below.

Bajaj ULC to be produced in Brazil by 2012

Our friends in Argentina inform us that Renualt-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn, has addressed members of the international media and expressed interest in setting up a plant in Brazil that will roll out the ULC (Ultra Low Cost car). Renault aims to sell more affordable cars to increase its presence in the country.

Meanwhile in India, Bajaj has not yet made up its mind on how to position the product since the company has learnt a thing or two fighting a losing battle in the 100cc segment of motorcycles in India. It does not want to repeat the same mistake by competing in a segment that is dominated by another brand where opportunities are less for a relatively new entrant.

2011 Suzuki Swift caught testing again

Set to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, Suzuki Swift’s successor will have big shoes to fill. A new set of spy images has surfaced from which instantaneously make out the retention of Swift’s unique design.

The whole car seems to have grown bigger and with a longer rounded hood. Obviously, the new Swift will be offering front wheel drive. We hear that there will be a choice of petrol engines, producing between 90 and 130 bhp of power.

Fiat’s new generation of Multijet diesel engines will take care of the propulsion and a hybrid variant is also expected in 2011. Prices will be announced after the car’s launch, but will most likely be marginally higher than the current version. Customers of the Swift are quick to complain of its lack of interior space.

Suzuki has to tackle the hybrid component storage smartly if they have to continue marketing the Swift as a family hatchback.

Today is our second day with the Linea and we are going to focus on provisions on board.

The seats are beige, they do tend to get soiled, if you a whiner. To us, beige connotes class.

Fiat Linea Cabin and Comfort-2

The seats are firm, and only so in the right places. The base of the seat is rough, so during cornering, you don’t slide around. The rough portion ensures you are planted to the seat. The outer portion of the seat’s base is soft, it is made using a velvet-like material and so are the side bolsters.

The new small car by Chevrolet is to be launched in December this year and the company has export plans in mind as well.

GM has officially announced that around 15% of the volumes will be exported to various other countries, which they have not yet identified. However, this will happen only after the demand in India is met and only in 2011.

Chevrolet sold around 32,000 Sparks last year, the company was expecting a growth and as expected there is a noted growth of around 28%. The proposed mini car would be slotted just above the Spark.

Test mules of GM’s new mini car have been spied across India. Going by the spy shots, it would be called the Matiz Groove in Korea. The naming convention GM will follow here in India is anyone’s guess.

On the July edition of Overdrive, a popular monthly magazine in India, pictures of the Tata Nano pickup truck test mule were published. Overdrive say this vehicle was testing with its loading area packed with cans on the outskirts of Pune, in the vicinity of Tata’s production plant.

A single wiper, three wheel lugs and a similar dashboard layout substantiate its Nano mechanicals. The engine was apparently mounted at the rear axle and sounded exactly like the Nano’s twin cylinder exhaust tune.

The Nano’s platform as we said earlier will not end with just a passenger car. We are not sure what else it can give rise to, maybe only a Nano tractor wouldn’t come about.
