In the latest of a series of upgrades, Bajaj has launched India’s fastest bike the new Pulsar 220 DTSFi. Capable of reaching a top speed of 144kmph, this mean machine would dethrone the current speed kings, the HH Karizma/Yamaha YZF-R15.
Now the interesting bit; the new model comes at a discounted price of Rs. 70,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi), Rs 15,000 less than the outgoing one. Isn’t it icing on the cake!
Bajaj is targeting two birds with one stone – setting the performance benchmark and by reducing the cost/exporting this bike, make it available to a wider range of customers.
The new Bajaj Pulsar uses a carburetor instead of fuel injection, and that is how they are able to shave cost.
The new Bajaj Pulsar 220 churns out 21.04 ps@8500rpm (up 1.04 ps) and while maximum torque remains same at 19.12 Nm@7500 rpm. However the peak torque has shifted to the right on the torque curve by 1000 rpm implying a rev happy motor.
On the cosmetic front, it’s just the all black theme that’s carried on to the 220. We would have appreciated a redesigned front fairing, but may be Bajaj has kept it aside for the pulsar 250 or 300 may be. Let’s wait and watch.

well we all know pulsar 220 is da king of bikes in india.But it lacks some of da features of r15. r15 which is a 150cc bike but its still capable of outrunning da pulser220…….its a shame for our Indian motors…but any ways r15 roxxxxx
Yup Pulsar 220 is the fastest Indian and runs faster then R15 but R15 is 150 cc so it wont be fair if we compare those two bikes ….
r51 is true motorcycle , it is stable and robust ..
whereas Pulsar is for quick acceleration and for drag races ..
both are awesome bikes , but r15 got good nd better engine than pulsie.. personally i will go for r15
R15 is like a small kid in front of P220,those who said dat R15 is better than P220,they need the overview of Overdrive and Zigwheels(World Class Magazines) in which the specialist said that the P 220 is much better than R15,Karizma ZMR in terms of Engineering, quality,Mileage,performance,top speed and one of the most important terms of pricing.AND don;t forget the tag THE FASTEST INDIAN bcoz P 220 is DISTINCTLY AHEAD. On the road, PULSAR 220 is the baaaaaaaap of all bikes.
man …r15 wid 150cc can giv clear compettion wid p200dtsi n can beat p220fi..this is everything for r15 reputation…..r15 brakin,stablity at high speed is jus like sittin inside a car at high speed…………………FUCKIN ”TITUS” ur sayin ur tellin uve done 126 on p180..ive done 131kmph on plain road n 121kmph on pillion in RTR160…!!!!!n ur tellin p220 ll go 160 on hard……baby 160 kmph is not easy speed to gain….145 is okay…coz topspeed is meaure in st road not at slope..coz in slope 100cc splender ll also go for 110kmph!!!!!
I also bought a new P220 and it makes weird crackling sound like crushing a pet bottle. I am scared now to see all other users face the same problem.since this is a known issue as googled, is bajaj doing something to replace it.I am now gonna sue them and take ‘em to court if this does not resolve the issue.
allan: its great that if you think 220 can race R15..then why Bajaj bikes don’t come in the list of Superbike World Championship SBK hope you know the INDIAN LEGEND YAMAHA RD350 HT & LT ask any mechanic what is the power of RXZ 5 speed and RD in the drag race even a stock engine.. which was stopped due to more power by the traffic police..Pulsar lags in quality..even my brother have pulsar..bajaj can was good when Kawasaki was in tie with them..the old pulsar with out dtsi. bajaj is good for AUTO not for powerful bikes.if you need a proof go to a bike rally in 100cc segment or 200 you will find Yamaha or suzuki shaolin. the old 1980′s 100cc yamaha is enough to drag 220 pulsar in the initial torque.. might be the rider was not qualified..even i too go for drags check my brother’s website http://www.vasaautosports.com

World class technology is only for theory but for practical situation in INDIA it wont work. India needs a bike like P220 Dtsi. No one can just beat the fastest INDIAN. Please take a test drive and then comment on it…Its an INDIAN SUPERBIKE…with indian’s world class level technology…u can aaramse beat R15…:-)

what happen with this p220dtsi it has no pickup power like in p220fi n rear brake is not working even like drum brake.i went showroom n try this p220dtsi it is ashame a of power to the pulsar where is the power of pulsar
prateek says true that pulsar 220 having a 220cc engiene but pulsar can never beat r 15 in any condition either in a drag or in a long distance race because R15 is a brand of YAMAHA’s world class tecnology and pulsar is a brand of indian world class poor tecnology.bajaj se ghatia co. is duniya me hee nahi ho sakti kunki inki bykes like xcd,discover,platina start hone se pehle hee khatam ho jati hain. maadarchod hamara bajaj distinctly behind.

How can people compare like you’ll compare a 150 cc bike with a 220 cc bike.. the R15 is 150 cc and a BHP of 17.. but the so called Bajaj Pulsar 220 cc is having a BHP 21.. still the R15 gives a rock solid response to the so called Pulsar’s.. the one thats that great is great.. Yamaha is always giving performance bikes.. the handling which you get on yamaha.. you will never get in other bikes.. the feel which you get while riding the R15 can only b given by a true sports bike company.. and that is Yamaha..
Well,I went through the matter discussed above and found that pulsur220Dtsi perhaps a better choise according to indian roads as its hight also good, but what about milege for both ? I am a owner of Honda Unicorn.

This is to karthik tiwari . I agree its a shame that 150 is beating the 220 but that means that the little heart of the r15 has to work over time to do the same thing the 220 does…. EG: the F1 car uses a 1400cc engine with aviation fuel to make it go at speeds of a buggati but what does that mean that the poor little F1 car needs a new engine after 2 races….. and i guess u and i r not going to keep our bikes for 2 races we are going to keep it for a couple of years…. and that is why the bigger cc engine is better at durability compared to a smaller one however damn good the tec mite… so think about it…. the r15 with the smaller engine and performance equal to the p220dtsi costs more… so when the rider of a r15 (which costs 1.25 lac on road in A.P) dosent see the p220 in his rear view mirror, instead next to him at his top speed is going to feel misreable as the p 220 does all that and more for just 79370.00 on road A.P…. and then mantainance is cheaper for bajaj…. In the end the p220 becomes a more practical choice….
well don’t compare pulsar with r15 its a technology that 150cc engine of Yamaha can beat 220cc.. if Yamaha will launch 220cc engine like r1 technology then pulsar 500cc is required to beat Yamaha 220cc engine..well you cannot see pulsar in SBK motor sports..if its fast but you can see Yamaha change the Rules…its a shame that 150cc Yamaha technology can beat 220cc engine of other brands..

well guys both the two bikes are good and thats the truth.In some aspects the r15 exceeds the pulsar220 in terms of top speed stability and engine performance+engineering.but we cant deny that pulsar has the best acceleration(0-60kph in 4.5secs r15 takes 5secs) and it is a great bike for short races but not in constant long races.R15 really rocks there……..hey isnt the rx100 the best bike produced by yamaha????vroooooooomm…

yes buddy, i have a pular 180 digital, which claims a top speed of 114, but have done 126 in the red zone, so can just wonder what this bike is capable of, may be 160 on trying hard will be possible
well 1 hv got a pulsar 220 fi and i made it go 152 when the bike india said 127 as the top speed
and bike india is saying top speed of 130 for yamaha r 15
and u made it to 148
so dear can u imagine how fast this bike is gonna be
I am not sure whether the new p220 would be able to race the r15 though both might be close competitors as r15 can reach a top speed of 148(real and tested;you can check out the youtube videos if interested).Moreover r15 has full body fairing which the p220 lacks and their is every possibility for instability while driving at those speeds.
