Chennai has yet again become the centre of attraction with Peugeot–Citroen eying it as the location for their manufacturing facility of mid sized cars. Following most of the major auto manufacturers decisions to enter the emerging Indian market, Peugeot-Citroen as we reported earlier, is following suit.
In its previous attempt eleven years ago, Peugeot joined forces with Premier Automobiles, and rolled out the 309 model in India, which was a catastrophe.
With the sales falling at its home turf in the wake of the economic crisis, the manufacturer is looking at emerging markets for its business.

Toyota has come out with another edition of its popular Land Cruiser (Prado to Indians) known as the R – Edition. This version flaunts enhanced power and equipment from the standard SUV that Toyota offers.
In India, the Land Cruiser Prado is offered with only the 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine that gives out 235 PS and 362Nm torque.
In response to those customers that demand high power, Toyota has modified its current 3.0 D-4D (diesel) 173 hp engine and has drawn as many as 31 more horses and 100 Nm.

The next generation Fiat Palio, as we laid out in a previous post on another rendering, will be fatter, wider, longer and taller compared to the existing car.
Fiat’s next-generation Palio would be a much bigger car making use of Fiat’s Multijet 2 engine. Increase in demand for more fuel efficient vehicles could force Fiat to turn towards alternative fuel powertrains.
Hyundai’s developing an electric vehicle based on the i20 hatchback, so Fiat could use the future Palio (which would likely swell to that size) as a ground for electric and hybrid variants and pit it against Hyundai.

Daimler is leaving no stone unturned in wooing customers. The latest is a special trim level for the W204 C-Class. The special edition comes in both sedan and wagon format. There is no communication from MB India Limited on this model coming here.
The deep frown of the front grill just adds to the dark look of the edition. We think this is pretty cool.

The Czech car manufacturer Skoda has launched a Octavia (Laura) that runs on natural gas for taxi operators in Spain.
Skoda, joining forces with Gas Natural (a supplier of natural gas) to enable the use of natural gas as fuel on the Octavia, uses a combination of natural gas and conventional gasoline for its operation.
The project aims for cleaner and sustainable mobility. The deployment of these cars in the busy metros like Madrid and Barcelona will prevent emission of 23 tons of CO, 300 tons of NOx, 17 tons of particulate matter and 700 tons of CO2 in atmosphere each year.

Business Standard reports Tata Motors will roll out the Xylo/Innova slayer Indicruz next year.Equipped with Tata’s CRDI engines, the Indicruz has been styled by the same group which was responsible for cars like the Indica Vista and Sumo Grande.
The Indicruz, comprehensively evaluated at the Tata Motors European Technical Centre in U.K, the group which has closely worked with the ERC engineers here in Pune to fine tune the car.
Rumors of possible Land Rover powertrain application on the Indicruz has not been turned down by Tata thus far. Such a variant would be more suited for the European markets.
