@ Dipak

Yes, in 2007 TOROTRAK entered into a Licence Agreement with Tata Motors for providing them with their traction drive technologies.

Torotrak's IVT (Infinitely Variable Transmission) has every chance of getting into the Nano, but the automatic version will be launched no sooner than next year.

I have found your reports on Nano very interesting. Here in UK people are keen to know how successful this car will be. I am particularly interested to know when the automatic model will come out. TATA has linked up with a small UK company called TOROTRAK who have developed IVT technology. These automatics are designed to provide a better driver experience than the stepped auto gearboxes and are very fuel effiecient.

Do you have any information or can you find out if Nano will be fitted with IVT when they bring out the automatic model?

Keep up the good work.

@Shanti Bhushan- As always, thank you for your encouraging comments. The Nano is not a toy by any stretch of imagination. We have a pile of images to share with you later today, which will bring out the point.

@Sushil- Thank you, it is very encouraging. Yes, it is called "reverse engineering." I'm sure Maruti will be the first car company to do something like that, followed by Bajaj, Ford and Hyundai who all are working on Nano cars.

Shanti added a point I didnt think of till now. A lot of Nanos will be bought by rival car companies to be stripped down to parts and studied for ways to optimize their own manufacturing process to reduce costs. A lot of innovations of the Nano will make it into other cars - very soon.

hi there...thanks for writting such an honest experience on Nano test drive....
n I agree that its quite a revolution to bring a car with little over a lakh price tag...
its all-the-more thrilling and a matter of pride that Nano is totally indegenously developed car...
Let me add one more totally unknown fact that when TATA contacted a steel mill here in Japan, they commented rudely-"We dont wanna supply for a toy".
But the same haughty mill has now accepted the technological superiority of TATA and are now planning to import a Nano to do some research...
I am pretty sure that Nano will hit roads abroad also within 2-3 years of time..

Cheers,
Shanti Bhushan

Wow - a six footer can sit in the back comfortably ? Thats something the 800 cannot achieve easily.
