Readers of the BusinessCar magazine in the U.K have voted the 500 as the “City Car of the year”, snatches the crown away from contenders Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo. The Fiat 500 is available in both petrol and diesel variants in the U.K and starts at £8,100. This isn’t the first time the 500 is winning awards. It’s done it a million times before, and the best of the lot was the European Car of the Year 2008.

A renewed VW Polo hatchback and a sedan based on the Polo will roll out of VW’s Chakan Plant in Pune in 2010. VW’s Chakan plant will start functioning in April, producing sister compan Skoda’s Fabia, a year before original intentions. The underlying structures of the Skoda Fabia will be used to make the Polo and Polo sedan.
There are talks about a facelifted Fiat Palio in India by the end of next year and this is the car which will do the job of reviving Palio sales in the country, if not anything else. It’s a refreshed Palio, with a lot of changes both on the inside and the outside. If Fiat has to capitalize the attention they have grabbed with the Linea or the Grande Punto, they have to introduce this model in India before it is too late.
It is a well-known fact that massive discounts are offered on both the petrol and diesel version (the diesel version isn’t very old, remember) and the 2010 Fiat Palio could change it all as it would be an all-in-all new car. We’re also offering a word of advise for Fiat at the end of this article.
Petrol Heads in India love the Fiat brand. I’m able to see the love Indians have for Fiats. The point is, they can’t do anything about it. Only Fiat can help it’s own self by carrying out changes to the current cars and the introducing the right cars, understanding the average Indian buyer’s psychology.
India’s largest carmaker – Maruti Suzuki has yet again hiked the prices (since its last hike in October’08) of its cars by Rs 5,000-10,000 with effect from January 28, attributing it to higher input prices and foreign currency movement, which affects prices of imported components.
While prices of all variants of SX4 sedan has been hiked by Rs 9,000, the price of Swift Petrol LXi has now been revised upwards by Rs 5,000.
The Fiat Palio Stile 1.1 had been launched here in 2007, with hopes that it could bring back the glory days of Fiat and Palio’s hatchback dominance. But unfortunately for Fiat, it had been an instantaneous failure, obviously due to a recipe failure-Great looks, solid comfort, reasonable price, but a catastrophically impotent 1.1L petrol engine. Toyota has launched a refreshed Innova with new colors, exteriors, climate control, steering mounted audio controls and an in-dash CD changer. The mechanicals remain the same and this is a frantic attempt by the company to woo its customers and take some attention away from the new kid on the MPV block- The Mahindra XYLO.

The production M3 model has 420 bhp but in stage 1, the Compressor system EVO-SK I adds another 105 bhp which makes a total of huge 527bhp. The German luxury car giant, BMW entered the Indian market in the year 2007 and in its second year it sold 2,908 units of its cars which wasn’t too far away from the direct competitor, Mercedes Benz which sold 3,625 cars in the same year with a 12 year experience in the Indian car market.
