Yamaha launched two mega hit bikes in India in 2008, the Yamaha FZ16 and the Yamaha R15 (some call it the mini-R1, no?) are held accountable for this feat- Yamaha India has registered an exceptional 18% boost in its sales in 2008.

The FZ16 is doubtlessly the talk of the town, taking the crowd away from the R15, which was the preceding head turner. 22,000 paid bookings were enrolled in Yamaha showrooms across the country by the end of November 2008, just weeks after the FZ16 launch.

Indian car manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is finally going to launch its all new MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) XYLO in India on 13th January 2009. The car was due in December 2008 but due to recent Mumbai terror attacks M&M had also delayed the launch date.

Mahindra XYLO will hit showrooms by the 13th of this month, and you can book one from the 14th onwards.

This is what all of us here were waiting for after our brush with electric scooters last year- Lithium Ion technology. Subsequently came news, of Nissan’s affordable electric car which would also make use of Lithium Ion units.

Japanese Auto Major Honda has not had the best of time in the past few months. Thanks to a sharp drop in global sales and the frustrating economic slump, Honda had to call it a day on it’s supercar project and painfully had to pull the Formula 1 plug.

So what does one do to get out of this mess? Naturally build cars that will sell in larger numbers and will have a wider reach. Honda earlier announced that it will make an entry level car for India, but that was just about what it said.

One of our Indian Autos Blog readers emailed us an image of what he thinks is the soon to debut Mahindra XYLO. The image is low-resolutionbut the signature Mahindra grille and emblem with a new and unseen headlight and bumper design confirms that this is after all the XYLO.

Look closely at the number plate, you can view the letters I and O, and the word “project” just above it. What this could be is “Project Ingenio” indicating the picture must have been taken before the XYLO name was christened to this vehicle.

From what we can see, Mahindra have pinned the fit and finish aspect. The bonnet line looks neat and the headlamp design head-on is similar to the Tata Sumo Victa. The portion of the bumper where the fog lamp sits, is fitted with plastic conveying this is a base model. The brown color adds appeal which both the Scorpio and the Bolero are offered with.
