Designing and manufacturing an all-terrain vehicle is an immensely thought provoking and mind boggling task. Moreover, the number of students entering into the field of automobiles is continuously dwindling. As far as women are concerned, most of them still refrain from opting into this field considering it tough and out of their reach.
Somebody in Carspyshots has posted a picture of what he supposes is the production version of the Chevrolet Beat. Not very long ago, we informed you about the Beat’s postponement in India, which will make it’s first appearance during the Detroit Auto Show which is to commence soon.
State-run Indian Oil Corporation plans to set up the country’s 2nd hydrogen fuel-dispensing station in the vicinity of the Commonwealth Games Village before 2010 for catering to more than 100 government vehicles to be used for demonstrating the usefulness of the fuel. The station will dispense a mix of hydrogen and CNG in the ratio of 20:80. In the initial phase, Indian Oil is targeting CNG vehicle which can be run on hydrogen fuel mix with a little modification. However a completely new engine (Fuel Cell) is required for using 100% pure hydrogen as fuel.
World’s second largest car manufacturer – Toyota, has’nt been quite successful last year around (after seeing the first loss in 71 Years!) But now has some news to cheer! The cheer comes from India, in the form of Corolla Altis’ leadership. The Corolla Altis which was launched here in September ’08, had become an instantaneous hit and soon took the title of market leader since October 2008. It has won the hearts of many a customer and has successfully regained leadership (Overthrowing Honda Civic) in the premium sedan segment (C-Segment) of the Indian automotive market. The 10th generation Corolla Altis has achieved 42 per cent market share in the period September – December 2008 in the premium mid-sized car segment.
We have treated you to one image of the Mahindra XYLO previously. Now, we have two more images which show the front profile of the vehicle completely.
The Mahindra XYLO is an MPV that’s supposed to put an end to the life of sedans in India. I don’t think that’ll happen with Mahindra themselves developing a 4-seater electric car which might be a sedan and JV partner Renault sells the Logan, with more sedans in the pipeline.
What the XYLO will do is provide customers with a big and stylish car at a low price. We also think this will be Mahindra’s trump card to pull them out of the situation which the economic conditions in the country have got them into. Whether the XYLO’s platform will be used to churn out pickup trucks (As building a sedan on it will contradict Mahindra’s claim) is yet to be seen. The XYLO will be sold in many countries abroad, ones even as far as Egypt.
We’ve seen a lot of the 2010 BMW 5 Series testing with camouflage which will come off in 2010. Notably the 5 Series will borrow design aspects from from the CS Concept and the recently launched BMW 7 Series.
The BMW 5 Series’ sibling- the 3 Series is getting ready for an overhaul. It made it’s global debut in 2005 and subsequently found it’s way into India. The test mule photographed here is the 2010 or possibly a 2012 model. Similar to the next-gen 5 Series, design elements will be lifted from the CS Concept.
