Instead of killing Maruti 800, it can be upgraded with the existing Alto engine, only one model with AC and it can be named as 'Suzuki 800'. The Alto can be upgraded with the new A Star engine, a new variant VXI

@ Saumay Das

Maruti 800 is indeed an Indian Automobile icon, but times have moved on. Sadly, the 800 does'nt stand a chance against the newer cars and the BS IV emission norms(which will come to force in April 2010).

Personally im sorry to see this car go but i feel that Swift is going to pick up where 800 left off, from the looks of it the cars doing very well, they just crossed the 3 lakh milestone, that stands for something really. i took part in the rally they organized in delhi at the launch of www.swift-life.com, i was surprised at how many swift owners showed up.
